During this first summer after the pandemic, the number of overnight stays recorded by the hotel sector has exceeded 35.1 million. In Spain, they exceed 12.1 million, which represents 34.6% of the total. This represents an increase of 146.7% compared to the same month in 2021. Moreover, during the first six months of 2022, overnight stays increased by 285.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Growth in the hotel sector after the pandemic
The Hotel Price Index (HPI) stood at 20.6% in June 2022, which is 11.8 points higher than that recorded in the same month of 2021.Taking into account the data by autonomous communities, the highest hotel price r rises are in Madrid (50.2%) and the Basque Country (38.8%). On the other hand, the lowest increase was registered in the autonomous city of Ceuta, with an annual variation rate of 7.4%.
The average daily turnover of hotels per occupied room (ADR) was 105.7 euros in June. This represents an increase of 23.3% compared to the same month in 2021.
By category, the average turnover is 247.4 euros for five-star hotels, 111.2 euros for four-star hotels and 84.5 euros for three-star hotels. The revenue per available room for these same categories is 175.6, 85.1 and 61.0 euros, respectively.
Destinations and hotel occupancy
Destinations such as Andalusia, Catalonia and Valencia are the main destinations selected by travellers resident in Spain. On the other hand, the Balearic Islands are the favourite destination for foreigners, with 35.6% of the total.
Last June, 62.9% of the places on offer were filled, with an annual increase of 68%. The tourist destinations with the highest number of overnight stays are Barcelona, Madrid and Calvià. Santanyí has the highest occupancy rate (91.8%) and also the highest weekend occupancy rate (96.4%).
