Le Room Service and Gravity Wave join forces to clean up more than a tonne of plastic in the Mediterranean. The Food and Beverage (F&B) outsourcing company for hotels, aparthotels and tourist accommodation joins the #plasticfreeoceans commitment by being one of the pioneering companies in the hospitality sector to clean up plastic in the Mediterranean Sea. The company focuses on producing packaging with sustainable materials and promotes different recycling initiatives with the aim that this plastic waste does not continue to end up in the seas and oceans. In addition, the company will participate in the Gravity Wave Awards 2023 (The ‘Goya’ of Sustainability of the sea) in which more than 80 companies from different sectors will be present.
Le Room Service – GRAVITY WAVE
One of the main objectives of Le Room Service is the elimination of the use of any plastic material in the development of its business activity. By 2022 they have reduced their impact as much as possible through operational and purchasing optimisation. Currently, due to the casuistry and food quality requirements imposed by this business model, there are no viable alternatives for eliminating all the plastic they must use in their activity, and therefore all the plastic packaging they use belongs to the PET (recyclable plastic) category. Becoming PLASTIC 100% FREE by 2030 is Le Room Service’s major commitment to be a catalyst for a responsible tourism model.
What does this partnership consist of?
The challenges of corporate sustainability cannot be tackled alone. That is why Le Room Service has joined forces with Gravity Wave to minimise its plastic footprint by removing from the sea more than 50% of the equivalent in pet plastic that its activity generates and that is not feasible to reduce.Gravity Wave is a social, circular economy and environmental awareness startup whose main mission is to clean our seas and oceans of plastic.
Le Room Service becomes Plastics Fisher: it will eliminate 1,200 kilos of plastic from the Mediterranean Sea. Le Room Service joins the commitment #plasticfreeoceans being one of the pioneering companies in its hospitality sector that cleans plastics in the Mediterranean Sea, collaborating with the collection in its name of 100 kg monthly of plastics until reaching the figure of 1’2 tons, which would be equivalent to suppress 6 thousand plastic bottles of 500 ml.
Le Room Service receives the “Plastic Free Ocean” certificate and seal: The seal means participating in the plastic clean-up of the sea with Gravity Wave.
With this initiative, they have a double objective: to recycle, transform and revalue 100% of the plastics they remove from the bottom of the sea and from prevention zones to give them a second, more durable and valuable life.
This synergy is part of the transition towards the circular economy model. In addition to contributing to cleaning plastic from the sea, Le Room Service focuses most of its efforts on producing its packaging with more sustainable materials, recycling it and preventing this plastic waste from ending up in our seas and oceans.
Le Room Service will share on its website the monthly collection impact report and the personalised certificate with the total amount of kilos collected in the name of the organisation at the end of the agreement.
